A must for every Ham Shack
Amateur Owned Business
There is little in this world that is more terrifying than fire. Fire happens quickly, steals the oxygen in the air and replaces it with toxic gasses from carpeting, furniture and cabinets. You may have only moments to escape, especially if the fire starts between you and an exit. Anything that can be done to extend the survivable time in a fire is well worth the effort. Your life and the lives of your loved ones may depend on a few additional seconds.

I am making a point of this because of a really useful product that could save your life and as a bonus is sold online by a company owned and operated by an Amateur Radio Operator, Larry, WE0T. The product is fireproof paint. It is surprisingly inexpensive and easy to . . .

UPDATE :

I have placed in the download area the Qrptr.dtt file for the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. And yes, I know that neither Boston or the state of Florida are in the immediate area. The 10 meter repeaters are included for the eventual band openings to the Eastern Seaboard. Both of these repeaters have been heard here in the past.

This updated file includes machines in a wider area than the earlier file. Topeka, Lawrence and Hiawatha are included on the Kansas side and Carrollton and Chillicothe on the Missouri side. In any event, this will save some typing if you live in this area and would like to know where the machines are. If you find any

USAlite
Software
All the bells and whistles

Get the NEW USAlite v. 1.21 here and now. This updated version has the new band limits in the Bandplan tab.

In addition it has user documentation in PDF format to make it easier to read and real time help is available from a menu selection or with a click of the F1 key.

USA Lite has all 21 functions available in earlier versions without the registration and without the cost. USA Lite is an optimized, lean, mean, very fast version of the Ultimate Shack Assistant that has made operating easier for thousands of operators.

Everything is included. Station clock and ID timer, metric/English measurement conversion, completely functional DX beacon timer, logging with ADIF export and print facilities, WAS, WAC and DXCC trackers. The list goes on and on. And it's FREE! Download it now and see what you have been missing.

To overcome some of the problems experienced by some with installation of the Zip file, USAlite now comes in a handy-dandy Windows® installer package. While this package should install over previous versions without loss of data, it is best to make a backup of the current version before starting the install.

It should also be noted that the old version of USA should not be running when the new version is installed.

QSO Clock
Software
One bell no whistles

QSO Clock is a handy little program for those of us, like me, that can never find a pencil when we hear the DX station calling CQ on the frequency on which we're tuned up.

You can click up when you need it to hold the beginning and ending time of just one QSO. Included at no extra charge is a convenient ID timer to let you know when it is time to identify should the contact continue to ten minutes or more.

QSO Clock has graphic ID reminders as well as a bell. Maintains the beginning and ending times of the last QSO until you have time to log it properly. It also celebrates a rag chew with a special Ol' Sock award hung by the chimney with care.

Note: Set the clock font on the first use. It won't let you exit till you do.

Beacon Assistant
Software
Beacon Assistant is a simple little program that just points to the spot on a world map where a radio beacon is transmitting. At least where one is supposed to be transmitting. There may be times and places and frequencies where they are not transmitting due to extraordinary circumstances but this program has no way of knowing that. It just shows you whose turn it is whether they are transmitting or not. If it isn’t transmitting then you can think of it as planning for the future.

If you are not familiar with NCDXF / IARU beacons then you will want to look for information on the Web. IARU.ORG and NCDXF.ORG are good places to start. In a nutshell, there are 18 stations around the world that take turns transmitting on a specified frequency on each of 5 Amateur bands. Each of the stations will ‘own’ a particular frequency for 10 seconds. During that time each will ID in Morse at 22 w.p.m. then send 4 dashes (those are long sounds for you no-coders, lo-coders and other non-hams) of 1 second each at 100 watts, 10 watts, 1 watt and 0.1 watt. With this information you can tell within a few moments to where your band of choice is open and the expected quality of signals of various power levels.

This version of Beacon Assistant has a public registration key. All registered features are available without charge. Simply right click on the map and enter your name and call sign.

The Truth Is Out There

It's our duty to find it.
